Summary Ground temperatures were monitored under a range of natural conditions to examine evidence of ground temperature warming and to assess the influence of various environmental factors on permafrost conditions. Air photo mapping, remote sensing and LiDAR (light detection and ranging) techniques have also been used to identify and map ice-rich terrain and thermokarst in the region.
Local Relevance Permafrost thaw is a major issue in the NWT, so it is important to have an understanding of the environmental conditions in which it persists or thaws.
