Summary In 2018, the GNWT released the 2030 Energy Strategy, a long-term approach to supporting secure, affordable, and sustainable energy in the NWT. The Strategy is the GNWT’s main vehicle to achieving the NWT’s target of a 30% greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) reduction below 2005 levels by 2030. As part of the Strategy, the GNWT committed to exploring new and emerging energy technologies. One emerging technology of interest to the GNWT is hydrogen.
Local Relevance This report is highly relevant to the Northwest Territories (NWT) as it provides insight into how hydrogen could support the territory’s transition to a lower-carbon energy system.
