Summary Indigenous peoples in the Northwest Territories (NWT) are deeply connected to the land but face heightened vulnerability to climate change, which threatens traditional food and water sources, cultural practices, and social equity. While their resilience and self-determination have historically helped them navigate challenges, experts stress that this burden of resilience should not be normalized. Adaptation strategies should actively include Indigenous communities in decision-making and focus on addressing existing inequities in health, housing, and food security, which are exacerbated by climate change impacts.
Local Relevance This report identifies several key adaptation strategies to address climate change-related health impacts in the NWT.
